I’ve been on a bit of a military romance kick for the past few months, and found this series on Goodreads. This is the first time I have read Annabeth Albert, and by the time I finished with this series, I knew I had to read more. I am coming for all your books now Annabeth!

The stories followed a typical recipe, build up from the beginning until you get to a point where there is impossible decisions or actions that the main characters have to face and break up over, then realize how dumb they are and get back together and live happily ever after. Typical romance shit. I love it. And that is how the series seems to be laid out as well.

Start slow with Book 1, gradually getting better and better for the top of the hill by Book 4, slipping a little at Book 5, unable to keep holding and falling all the way down with Book 6, finally standing back up for the grand finale of Book 7.

There are memorable characters all around, and they all, mostly, reappear throughout the series in one way or another.

One thing I disliked with this series, is that it seems the author put out several short stories between various books, adding on or filling in gaps. BUT THEY ARE VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND. As far as I could tell, they were used as promotional or giveaway material that is no longer valid. Especially after Book 1, I wanted more, and was disappointed to not get more.

Several of the books had what I considered a HFA. To get a HEA, I wanted marriage, living together, kids maybe. And we got that in a few. But in the rest, it wasn’t enough. I suppose that tells you how well Annabeth wrote the characters for me to just want more.

Another thing, each book seemed to end with a chapter from another book. It may not have been the authors choice, I just don’t enjoy that type of stuff. I never read chapters after the end of a book, unless it continues the story I just read. It just adds about 6% of fluff to the end of the book, making me think the book will keep going when it just comes to an abrupt end.

I believe I went into this series thinking it was going to be all macho, SEAL team men saving the world while also finding love. But I found myself a bit disappointed in the lack of action and adventure of the SEAL team. While we may have gotten it in a few books, it just seemed less than I’d have liked. I was hoping for more military shenanigans, more action, more danger. After the disappointment from Book #1 on that very subject, I really looked into the name of the series; Out of Uniform. And that’s really what this series was about. How are these guys, out of uniform, in their relationships and lives. With only getting a sneak peak into them in uniform.

While it might seem that I have more bad things to say about this series than good, I feel like my negative aspects are all nit-picky to myself.

I will forever cherish this series, and I believe it to be a must read, especially if you are a fan of Annabeth Albert. You can tell she does a great job at researching and putting together a story as the series progresses. And to prove it, I had to buy each and every one of these books, as they weren’t given to me for free, and they weren’t on Kindle Unlimited. I don’t do that often.

Go read this series!
